MAN FINDS FIRE are beyond excited to officially announce that we will be bringing you The Man… The Legend… That mystic and mysterious world traveler, a genuine virtuoso on six strings… Drag City’s own…
SIR RICHARD BISHOP
After a long sabbatical which saw him exploring multiple and diverse cultures with residencies in Thailand, Morocco and most recently Switzerland, SRB will perform as part of MFF’s ongoing Sound Séance series at stellar new venue, Geary Lane. As always, the prolific and world weary musician’s set should be rife with fruits of his travels both future and past. His tenure with underground legends of yore, Sun City Girls alone has made him deserving of the title of SIR. So on Thursday September 4th, 2014, come sit and contemplate the language of wood and strings by a true master of the genre.
And as if that wasn’t enough to get your ears aching, make a note to arrive early, as Ric will be bringing along yet another experimental virtuoso in the form of one Mr. Tashi Dorji. You may not have heard of the Bhutanese guitarist yet, but you soon will, as he is set to christen Ben Chasny’s (SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE) brand new label Hermit Hut, with it, as his first official release, which will be available at the show! Huzah!
Finally to incite this magical evening, is Toronto’s own, Clara Engel. Her voice comes to me from that deepest of all places, imaginative space, from which she visually retrieves an inner landscape converted by breath into the rock equivalent of poetry. Rarely has a voice sounded so authoritative, so unapologetic in its disclosures, so sure of its direction in going home into song. I’d say ‘Madagascar’ beats them all, and it’s only a beginning at harnessing poetic inspiration to the resonating dynamic of voice and the lyrical ache of a great individual singer.
See you all then!
